ZIERER, a leading manufacturer of family-friendly amusement rides, and Legoland Windsor are celebrating the success of the Minifigure Speedway Coaster, which has surpassed 675,000 riders since it launched on Saturday 6 April 2024.

This Dueling Reverse Coaster represents ZIERER’s successful entry into the duelling coaster market and is the latest in a series of outstanding projects delivered in Merlin and ZIERER’s ongoing collaboration. The Minifigure Speedway Coaster has delighted the client and received excellent feedback on social media from the park’s visitors.

Introducing the Dueling Reverse Coaster

The Minifigure Speedway Coaster is the first deployment of ZIERER’s newly developed Dueling Reverse Coaster, which is based on the company’s bestselling Force Coaster series.

The roller coaster features two tracks, two trains, and both forward and backward motion. The trains run in parallel and compete with one another, with simultaneous programming. The attraction at Legoland Windsor is intended for high capacity, with two trains of ten vehicles each. For smaller parks, eight-car trains are also available.

In delivering this project, ZIERER’s team of highly skilled engineers and technicians overcame a variety of obstacles, including programming the ride to run both trains at the same time, and a large number of complex electric-pneumatic drives.

The coaster’s hillside location made it challenging to create two nearly identical tracks, however, the designers achieved a time difference of just 0.3 seconds between the empty trains. As a result, the train that is heaviest after loading will win the race, so riders never know if the “All Stars” or the “Legends” will triumph.

Collaboration between ZIERER and the client was essential to this project. Due to a strict timeline, both parties had to collaborate and communicate effectively.

Stephan Hackl, responsible project manager, says: “Of course, this project was a big challenge for us as well as for the park. However, we managed to realize this exciting coaster within a tight schedule and due to a close cooperation with the customer. Due to the complexity of the site, several new features on the coaster, as well as having only 11 months between signing the main contract and opening the ride to public, this project was truly special.

“I would like to thank Merlin as well as the Legoland Windsor team for a great cooperation throughout the project. And besides that, I would also like to highlight the fantastic job from our ZIERER engineers, technicians, workers, electricians and artists. This was really a team effort.”

With the Minifigure Speedway Coaster, ZIERER has once again demonstrated its ability to realise larger coaster projects, such as Pioneer at OK Corral in France, Polar X-plorer at Legoland Billund Resort in Denmark, and Verbolten at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in the US.

Zierer recently exhibited at IAAPA Expo 2024, where the company showcased its latest product concepts. This included the Discovery Launch Coaster and the Cycle Fun Rail.
