EPIC Entertainment Group, a producer of themed entertainment, live events, and immersive environments, has created a 12-minute holiday light show on the world’s first electrically lit outdoor Christmas tree at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, California.

For the fourth year in a row, EPIC is illuminating the season with the spectacular “Lights, Camera, Hollywood” installation, honouring the 65th anniversary of the classic film Some Like It Hot, which starred Marilyn Monroe and was partially filmed at the historic hotel.

“Our continuing partnership with the Hotel del Coronado allows us to bring the holiday season to life in a way that honors its historic charm while captivating modern audiences,” says Steve Sheldon, co-founder of EPIC Entertainment Group. “The chance to design experiences that showcase the hotel’s iconic features, like the century-old Norfolk Island Pines, is a testament to our shared commitment to storytelling and creating unforgettable moments for guests.”

Spectacular illuminations

This year’s light show features a 12-minute display that illuminates the hotel’s majestic Norfolk Island Pines, which are over 100 years old, on the Founders Lawn. These impressive trees gained fame in 1904 as the world’s first outdoor Christmas tree illuminated by electricity, and EPIC has once again revitalised them in this event. With more than 75,000 twinkling lights synchronised to cheerful holiday music, the exhibition enchants guests with its spectacular illuminations and culminates in a magical final with snow flurries.

Enhancing the festive spirit, EPIC Entertainment group is credited for bringing to life the 12-foot-tall replica of the hotel’s iconic red turret, illuminated with holiday lights, forming the centrepiece of a Victorian-themed lounge and bar area. Guests can unwind in stylish seating while savouring seasonal drinks and enjoying an unobstructed view of the light display.

Inside the hotel, EPIC’s skilfully designed décor captivates guests at every turn. Upon entering the historic lobby, visitors are welcomed by an impressive 22-foot Christmas tree adorned with 10,000 amber lights and 2,000 ornaments—celebrating the hotel’s cinematic heritage and its ties to Some Like It Hot. The grounds are decorated with over 20 themed Christmas trees, vibrant garlands, and large ornaments.

“Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do,” says Charity Hill, co-founder of EPIC Entertainment Group. “At the Hotel del Coronado, we blend tradition and innovation to create experiences that immerse guests in the magic of the season, ensuring memories that last a lifetime.”

Hill and Sheldon recently spoke to blooloop about the company’s work on Hersheypark’s Dark Nights.
