Disneyland has started building its Avengers Campus expansion, which includes two new attractions and will double the size of the Marvel land.
Via the Orange County Register, Disneyland closed the Timon parking lot yesterday (12 January) so construction can start on the Marvel-themed expansion, according to Disneyland officials.
The Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure includes the new Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab attractions.
Avengers: Infinity Defense is a dark ride and described as a multi-world adventure, with riders travelling to iconic locations such as Asgard and Wakanda via spaceship.
On Stark Flight Lab, set inside Tony Stark’s workshop, guests are seated in two-person pods before being grabbed by a robot arm and whirled around in a simulated flight.
Late last year, Disneyland submitted plans to the city of Anaheim for preliminary work for the Avengers Campus expansion.
The Avengers Campus project was announced last year at Disney’s D23 fan event. Also revealed at D23 for Disney California Adventure were the first-ever Coco ride in a Disney park, and an innovative new land based on the second Avatar film.
Two new attractions in Disney’s Marvel land
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s theme parks and experiences division, said at D23: “Disney Experiences is embarking on an accelerated path of ambitious growth and innovation.
“With so many great Disney stories to tell, we’re excited to bring an unprecedented number of new projects to life in the near future.”
The Avengers Campus development is not part of the recently approved $1.9 billion DisneylandForward plan, according to city officials.
Disneyland opened the world’s first Avengers Campus in 2021. This was followed by a second Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris in 2022.
