Ideum, an experiential designer of interactive exhibits, has announced the release of a new touch table product bundled with a software package that allows wineries, wine bars, and others to create interactive wine tastings.
The Tasting Table can host up to four guests at once. Created by Ideum, a leader in touch table innovation, this bar-height touch table features an optically bonded 55” touch display and a stylish combination of wood and steel, making it an ideal addition to wine bars and tasting rooms.
Meanwhile, the Wine Experience software package allows owners to upload wine information to a cloud-based content management system (CMS) and design personalised tasting experiences. Ideum’s sophisticated object-recognition software aids in identifying specific wines using custom tabletop coasters. Guests can also share their tasting experiences through an interactive digital tasting wheel. This guest-centric approach prioritises the tastes and experiences of visitors.
Additionally, Ideum has created software for sparkling wine tastings that operates similarly to the Wine Experience software.
Custom wine tastings
Owners can create custom wine tastings, and as guests participate, their choices on the tasting wheel are recorded and sent to the cloud. This helps winemakers and others gather information about the aromas and flavours in their wines. It makes the tasting experience more straightforward to understand, more interactive, and less intimidating for guests. A winemaker or sommelier can guide the experience, or guests can explore at their own pace.
“This is a passion project that brings together all of our experience,” says Jim Spadaccini, founder of Ideum and amateur vigneron. “We’ve been developing touch tables since 2006, and we’ve been developing object recognition software, which identifies the wines, for nearly a decade. In addition, we’ve created tasting software for Starbucks, the JCB Collection, and MSC Cruises. This new product brings all of this together.”
Spadaccini has been involved in viticulture for the last decade, growing grapes in Corrales, New Mexico.
Ideum will debut the Tasting Table and Wine Experience at a booth at the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento, California, on the 29 and 30 January 2025, where it will be sharing booth #A2315 with the New Mexico Wine and Grape Growers Association.
New Mexico is the oldest wine-growing region in the US, beginning with the Mission grape introduced by Spanish friars in 1629. To celebrate this history, the New Mexico Wine & Grape Growers Association and Ideum have collaborated to showcase the industry’s evolution, blending tradition with modern technology.
Meet the team at the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium
At the conference, Ideum and the New Mexico Wine & Grape Growers Association will celebrate state wineries. They will host interactive tastings featuring VARA’s New Mexico Sparkling Brut, made with the Mission Grape Listán Prieto, honouring New Mexico’s wine heritage. This sparkling wine recently earned a double gold medal and a 98-point rating at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Ideum to bring a new level of interactive engagement to the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium,” says Christoper Goblet, executive director of the New Mexico Wine and Grape Growers Association. “Our state’s winemaking tradition has deep roots, and it’s exciting to showcase both our historic legacy and the innovative strides we’re making in the industry today.”
The Tasting Table is Ideum’s newest hardware product, adding to nearly a dozen large-format touch displays and table options. Ideum markets these touch tables directly and has successfully distributed them across more than 48 countries globally. Like its other products, the table features top-tier technical components and materials, crafted with care in the USA. It includes a three-year warranty and is available for purchase worldwide.
The Tasting Table and Wine Experience underwent thorough testing in 2024. Ideum partnered with VARA Winery & Distilleries and the New Mexico Museum of Art to host multiple pop-up tasting events. Alongside these events, a permanent installation can be found at the New Mexico Wine Association’s tasting room in Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ideum also worked with New Mexico Wine to enhance and improve the Wine and Sparkling software experiences.
Last month, Ideum shared a progress update on its partnership with the USS Missouri Memorial Association in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to develop an immersive onboard exhibit exploring the ship’s key role in World War II.
