Walibi theme park in Belgium has unveiled its new Mecalodon roller coaster, set to be the largest family coaster in the Benelux region.

Mecalodon will be part of a new area at Walibi called Dock World, which is due to open in 2025. Both are part of an overall €35 million investment in the park, the Brussels Times reports.

The new attraction will have a track length of 925 metres, and cars shaped like mechanical sharks. Guests will enjoy three launches and 14 airtime moments.

In the new Dock World area, classic attractions such as Flash Back and Psyké Underground will be renovated and rethemed, as will the Dragon Boat and Salsa y Fiesta family attractions.

Also planned for the new area is a central hall for shopping, as well as a restaurant, café and a 15-metre lighthouse named Port du Wavre.

In 2021, Walibi Belgium launched Kondaa – the tallest and fastest coaster in the Benelux. The €25m project features a ride system from Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides.

The 50-metre-tall attraction boasts a top speed of 70.2 mph (113.0 km/h). It also offers 15 airtime moments.

New coasters at Walibi Belgium

Kondaa was the fourth new coaster to be added to Walibi Belgium as part of a €100m plan by operator Compagnie des Alpes.

Jean-Christophe-Parent, Walibi Belgium’s director general, said in 2021: “Our attractions all offer different sensations. For example, we have inversions, freefall, launch… but airtime; we missed that.

Kondaa is a real airtime machine. A totally new experience for our visitors.”
