Mandai Wildlife Reserve has unveiled the first phase of Rainforest Wild, Singapore’s fifth wildlife park, ahead of the public opening on 12 March.

Rainforest Wild Asia will immerse visitors in a 13-hectare Asian rainforest where they can choose their level of adventure and explore various paths, seeking out wildlife across 10 zones, from tree canopies to a subterranean labyrinth of cave chambers.

The park will include flexible habitats featuring key Southeast Asia species.

“We live in one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, but many of the region’s species are under threat due to the loss of wild habitats and the negative impact of pollution,” said Mike Barclay, CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group.

“With the belief that you can’t protect what you don’t know, we want to raise awareness about the region’s incredible wildlife species by shining a spotlight on them in this park.”

Guests will be encouraged to experience the rainforest from the tree canopies, on the forest floor, and below the ground in reproduced cave chambers. These are inspired by the Sarawak Chamber in Malaysia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One experience, called the Wild Cavern Adventure, allows participants to take part in a simulated cave expedition where they abseil in the dark, squeeze through tight spaces, navigate boulder fields, and explore narrow tunnels.

As for the animal residents at Rainforest Wild Asia, it will be home to 36 species, including the threatened François’ langur and the Philippine spotted deer.

Additionally, Rainforest Wild Asia includes four F&B options: Rangers Cafe at The Outpost, Sentinel Foodhall, Watering Hole Cafe, and Cavern Restaurant – Singapore’s first and only restaurant in a cave setting.

The next phase of Rainforest Wild is the Africa experience, which is based on the diverse landscapes of the Afrotropical region and Madagascar.

Mandai Wildlife Reserve is currently made up of four wildlife parks – the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise.

Also coming to the destination this year is a new eco-friendly hotel called Mandai Rainforest Resort.
