Alton Towers‘ new toxic waste-themed topspin ride, Toxicator, opened over the weekend with a ballerina and a sewage spill.
Launched on Saturday (15 March), Toxicator is the highest topspin ride of its kind, towering at 78-foot-high due to its 16-foot elevated platform.
British ballerina Karla Doorbar, part of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, was the first member of the public to experience the spinning ride.
Doorbar was approached due to her career as a professional spinner, saying she has “devoted countless hours to perfecting the pirouette”.
“It has taken immense levels of focus over many years to develop the strength and power that this entails,” said Doorbar.
“So when Alton Towers invited me to be the first to take on the unrivalled spinning power of Toxicator I jumped at the chance.
“Riding it is an incredible experience and will give riders an unrivalled sense of the intense power of spin.”
Toxicator: the highest topspin ride of its kind
Bianca Sammut, vice president of Alton Towers, added: “Toxicator is the latest example of how Alton Towers continues to set new standards for heart-pounding attractions.”
Toxicator had an eventful debut. The ride closed for about an hour on its first day of opening when a burst pipe flooded the surrounding area with sewage.
Located in Forbidden Valley, Toxicator is flanked by the Nemesis Reborn coaster, which opened last year after an 18-month transformation to replace its 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track.
The attraction is the next chapter in the Nemesis and Forbidden Valley story and represents new technology by the Phalanx – the secret (and fictional) organisation tasked with controlling the Nemesis beast.
During the experience, riders are flipped around and held face down above a bubbling pool of toxic alien acid as water fountains shoot up around the attraction.
These are supposedly the chemical solution formed from the Nemesis beast’s saliva, extricated by the Phalanx.
