Reverse the Red, a global coalition committed to accelerating and amplifying successful species recovery strategies, has launched grants to support action for threatened species in celebration of World Rewilding Day, which took place on 20 March 2025.
“These projects will not only benefit these incredible species but will also be models for strategic action, inspiring our community and giving hope for years to come,” says Michael Clifford, Reverse the Red Strategy Director.
“The thousands of species pledges we’ve received from all over the world so far are demonstrating that actions are happening, and this incredible Reverse the Red network, with specific strategies, skills, expertise and experience, is committed to achieving our biodiversity goals.”

Grants of up to $15,000
The Reverse the Red Accelerator Award is aimed at promoting strategic initiatives for endangered species. It is designed to stimulate innovation, enhance recovery strategies, foster collaboration, and facilitate essential actions needed for species recovery and biodiversity enhancement.
Reverse the Red will grant awards of up to USD 15,000, with recipients announced at the World Conservation Congress in October 2025.
This competitive opportunity is available for organisations or groups that have submitted a Reverse the Red Species Pledge for an endangered, critically endangered, or extinct-in-the-wild species, whether animal, fungi, or plant.
The Species Pledge seeks to align the strategic efforts of partners with national biodiversity targets and goals. It will encompass questions related to the indicators, metrics, and strategies detailed in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Species pledges and pre-applications must be submitted by April 25, 2025. After making a species pledge, organisations will receive details on how to apply for the Accelerator Award.
Species Pledges
The Reverse the Red Species Pledge aims to identify organisations committed to recovery actions for certain species across various countries. A total of 196 nations have endorsed the Global Biodiversity Framework, which focuses on halting extinctions, reversing declines, and recovering populations of plants, fungi, and animals.
Achieving these goals requires coordinated efforts from all partners, and this Pledge serves as the first step in understanding each organisation’s commitment to species recovery.
In February, Reverse the Red hosted the annual Reverse the Red Day. The event celebrates conservation success stories and encourages action to save species and ecosystems. Throughout the week, Reverse the Red and its partners engaged in discussions to speed up action, enhance strategies for species recovery, and align with national recovery goals.
