The Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, has touched water for the first time at the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The process, known as “float up”, started with filling the building dock with water from the Ems river in order to lift the ship from the floor of the chamber.

Via a Disney blog post, the ship was then guided to another position in the hall, where the team will start testing different systems onboard, including the main engines.

Over the next few months, the shipyard team will continue to build out the interior spaces on the Disney Destiny, which is themed to Disney’s heroes and villains.

The cruise ship will include new bars based on Cruella de Vil, the Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean, a new dining experience inspired by The Lion King, and a Broadway-style show themed to Hercules.

Additional F&B spaces on the cruise ship include Café Megara and Café Merida. The former is inspired by Hercules, and the latter by Brave.

Other experiences on the Disney Destiny include a sweet shop called Edna Á La Mode Sweets, and a new lounge inspired by Doctor Strange.

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager at Disney Cruise Line, said last year: “The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.

“As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

The Disney Destiny is part of a major expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which will eventually include a total of 13 ships.

The Disney Destiny sets sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in November 2025.
