Walt Disney World is updating Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom to include handheld blasters and improved ride vehicles.
For the updates to take place, the ride will temporarily close in August and reopen next year.
One new feature will be a new character; a friendly robot named Buddy created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios.
Also, the ride vehicles will be redesigned in the colours of Buzz Lightyear, and each vehicle will be equipped with video monitors to provide real-time scoring updates.
Additionally, Space Ranger Spin will offer handheld blasters for a more interactive experience like the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride at Disneyland.
The new blasters at Magic Kingdom will include an always-on laser, plus new lighting, sound and vibration effects.

Finally, the static Z targets in the current attraction are being upgraded with new technology that enables them to react and light up when hit.
Imagineers have already tested the new targets on the ride. “Everyone had a great time, and our team learned a lot,” said the project’s creative director Justin DeTolla.
“We’ve been working on this project for quite some time now, so it was exciting to see it all come to life for the first time in the field.”
Earlier this month, Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled the planned experience for the new Cars ride at Magic Kingdom.
This is part of Magic Kingdom’s largest expansion ever, which includes a new villains-themed land.
