KristallTurm, a quality provider of high ropes courses and other play equipment, has announced the opening of its new, unique high ropes course in Mie, Japan.
The new attraction is one of the firm’s biggest projects and features a unique combination of an 18-mast and a 7-mast KristallTurm. These two high ropes courses are linked by three suspension bridges, and accompanied by 126 climbing elements across the 1,200 square metre course to provide a memorable adventure.
Unique adventure experience
The two climbing towers soar above the green landscape near the coast at Mie. Each tower stands approximately 17 metres tall and contains three levels, with 90 climbing stations in the KT-18, and 36 in the KT-7. Climbers on the second level of the larger KT-18 can reach the three suspension bridges, which are at a height of 9 metres, with two at 38 metres long, and one at 30 metres long.
The bridges go to the first level of the KT-7, which is positioned on a low hill and offers a view of the beautiful Shima Peninsula landscape with the sea in the distance.
The attraction also features the plank walk, which demands balance and a head for heights. Visitors walk on a thin steel beam that leads away from the climbing tower. If they can ring the bell at the end of the beam, they have successfully completed the challenge.
Planning for the project on the former golf course site began in the middle of 2022. The components were designed and produced at the KristallTurm sites in Lenggries and Achenkirch, Tyrol, before being transported to Mie. Assembly began in March 2024 and was led by KristallTurm, the firm also provided training for the team. The venue opens to visitors of all ages some four months later.
The attraction offers a safe adventure experience. Each visitor receives training from KristallTurm-educated instructors before they begin to climb. The instructors are on hand to answer questions and offer support throughout the experience.
“The principle of the KristallTurm high ropes courses is similar to that of a via ferrata,” says a spokesperson from the firm. “Climbers are continuously connected to a steel rope via a system of two communicating carabiners and are therefore always secured. If one carabiner is opened, the other is firmly locked.”
The two towers require a compact footprint of approximately 1,200 square metres, yet can accommodate up to 170 visitors. Each climber chooses their route based on their desired difficulty level. This minimises queuing and waiting times. Climbing both towers requires stamina and time, taking around six hours to complete all stations.
KristallTurm recently attended the 2024 edition of IAAPA Expo Asia, which marked its 11th year at the event.
