The opening of Therme Manchester, a new £250 million water park and wellbeing resort in the UK, has been delayed.

Originally scheduled to debut in 2025, Therme Manchester will feature saunas, an urban wellbeing garden, an indoor beach, a water park, mineral pools, botanical gardens, a spa, massage beds, a vertical farm, beehives, a rooftop garden and restaurants.

In a statement, Therme Group UK’s CEO David Russell said the project’s “revised timeline” is on track, with ground works now set to begin next year.

“We are on track with our revised timeline,” he said. “The site hoardings are being installed, utility preparations have commenced, and ground works will begin in 2025 with a design that delivers a landmark development which will stand as a beacon of wellbeing innovation.”

Therme Manchester’s latest design has been enhanced and submitted to Trafford Council as a ‘section 73’ update to the existing planning permission.

The updated design focus on sustainability, visitor experience, and architectural excellence, TraffordCity said in a statement.

The destination will include energy-efficient systems like heat pumps, and will reduce its use of glass, steel and concrete. Advanced design efficiencies will significantly reduce the site’s CO2 footprint and water usage.

Additionally, the visitor arrival at the south entrance of Therme Manchester has been improved, and expanded public areas have been added to the 28-acre resort.

“Therme Manchester is committed to creating a destination that prioritises the wellbeing of individuals and the environment,” said Russell.

“We are delighted to see all the excitement and positive feedback in Manchester and further afield and we will continue to deliver updates to the community on the status of the project. Therme Manchester is large, complex and holds significant community impact.”

Plans for Therme Manchester were approved by Trafford Council last year. Therme Group had already made several improvements to the project.
