Smeetz, a provider of smart all-in-one ticketing software for leisure and cultural attractions, has announced a new multi-year partnership with the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.

The Swiss Museum of Transport is one of Switzerland’s most popular museums and welcomes around one million visitors a year. Its collection includes historic vehicles, aircraft, ships and railways which illustrate the evolution of travel.

These exhibits are accompanied by interactive exhibitions and simulations which engage visitors of all ages. In addition to the core museum, the Museum of Transport’s other attractions include a planetarium, a film theatre, and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure.

Complex ticketing requirements

The Museum of Transport selected Smeetz’s advanced solution following a thorough examination of its needs and an intense evaluation process. The museum’s former system will be replaced by a sophisticated unified commerce platform that provides cutting-edge technology and extensive functionality.

The collaboration will encompass ticketing for the organisation’s museum, planetarium, film theatre, and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure attraction. Packages and memberships will also be incorporated into the system.

This seeks to enhance the Swiss Museum of Transport’s sales efforts and promote digitalisation. The goal is to improve efficiency, streamline processes and enhance the customer journey. The Museum of Transport will be able to provide an even better and smoother experience for its guests by implementing new technologies and bringing together all sales operations into a single system.

By the end of 2024, tickets, packages, merchandising, memberships, and other products will be sold online, in the back office, and on-site using Smeetz’s unified commerce platform with its proprietary point-of-sale (POS) system. This platform provides a modern, reliable, and innovative package with centralised control over all sales activities.

Key internal system tools include detailed evaluations and statistics, and the transfer of payments received to the accounting system.

Marcel Gstädtner, head of sales, Swiss Museum of Transport, says: “The objective is to implement a modern, digital and customer-friendly ticketing system at the Museum of Transport. Online as well as stationary ticket sales are an eminently important factor. The complexity of different ticket types and categories, in combination with the different attractions and game times, pose a special challenge.

“We are convinced that in Smeetz we have found an innovative and reliable partner who can fully meet our requirements and thus contribute to meeting the objectives we have set.”

Sarina Erni, sales director DACH, Smeetz, adds: “Working with the largest museum in Switzerland is a significant milestone for Smeetz and shows our growing importance in the ticketing/commerce industry.

“For me personally, this partnership is very special, as the Museum of Transport was already a fascinating place in my childhood and I was able to prepare the project together with the VHS team over a long period of time. Now the implementation is finally coming and I am looking forward to working together!”

Smeetz launched a new group booking feature for its AI-powered Commerce Intelligence Hub last year. The new tool makes the management of group bookings easier and more efficient. It is suitable for museums, theme parks, theatres, and other visitor attractions which welcome large groups, such as school visits, tour groups, and birthday parties.
