Hong Kong Disneyland is expanding its Marvel experiences with a new themed area and Spider-Man attraction.
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks and experiences division, announced the news at this year’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, California.
The new Marvel area, called Stark Expo, is to be located in an extended zone of Tomorrowland. It is part of the park’s multi-year expansion plan.
Disney has released concept art of the new attraction, which follows Spider-Man as he showcases the Avengers’ latest inventions and technologies.
“Undoubtedly, the presence of Spider-Man will also attract one of the most formidable villains, who wreaks havoc at the scene. Peter will need all the help he can get to protect his brand-new technology while saving guests caught in the middle of the showdown,” Hong Kong Disneyland said in a press release.
The upcoming Marvel area will also include new entertainment, shopping and dining experiences.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s existing Marvel attractions are exclusive to the park. The Iron Man Experience launched in 2017 and was followed by Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle in 2019.
Shanghai Disneyland is also introducing its first Marvel attraction. Based on Spider-Man, it will be a new coaster for the park.
In more D23 announcements, Disneyland Paris has unveiled a new area inspired by The Lion King (1994), and announced an opening year for its new Frozen-themed land.
Disney’s D23 reveals
Disney Cruise Line is adding four new ships to the fleet, and Disneyland in California is developing new experiences inspired by Marvel, the Avatar franchise, and Coco.
At Walt Disney World in Florida, the company is creating new lands and attractions based on villains, Monsters, Inc., Encanto and Indiana Jones
“At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places,” said D’Amaro at D23.
“And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: we are doing everything you’re going to hear tonight.”
