Wakehurst, Kew’s botanical garden in West Sussex, has teamed up with the National Geographic Kids magazine to create new nature experiences.
As part of the three-year partnership, Wakehurst will offer interactive experiences that bring the pages of the magazine to life.
The collaboration will begin this October half-term (19 October through 3 November) with a new Nature Heroes x Nat Geo Kids activity – the Seed Seeker trail.
This is the ninth mission in Wakehurst’s Nature Heroes programme. Children will enjoy sensory experiences and trivia as they play as seed scientists and follow the seed banking process from beginning to end.

Eva Owen, programmes manager at Wakehurst, said: “Wakehurst is delighted to collaborate with National Geographic Kids magazine to bring the wonder of the natural world to life for young minds.
“As children partake in each Nature Heroes x Nat Geo Kids activity, they’ll learn more about the crucial role that seeds, plants and fungi play in our lives.
“We hope that this three-year programme will inspire young nature lovers as they explore our beautiful and diverse landscapes and discover how the gardens are a living laboratory for science with a global impact.”
Inspiring young nature lovers
Louise Ioannou, marketing director at National Geographic Kids magazine, added: “Not only does the fun and educational nature trail bring our much loved children’s title to life, the Seed Seeker adventure is also designed to inspire a passion for nature and spark curiosity in young explorers – core values of both Nat Geo Kids and the Nature Heroes programme.”
In 2025, Wakehurst will also be celebrating the Millennium Seed Bank’s 25th anniversary. The world’s largest store of seeds from wild plants is home to more than 2.4 billion seeds.
Together, Kew Gardens Wakehurst enjoy more than 2.5 million visits every year.
