Meow Wolf has unveiled ‘Obsidiodyssey’, a new six-room art installation at its fifth permanent exhibition in Houston, Texas, which is named ‘Radio Tave’.
Created by Santa Fe-based artist Janell Langford, Obsidiodyssey explores the creative process in multiple dimensions. Highlights in this space include ‘Insidiopolis’, an alley inspired by the film noir style that represents the artist’s fears and anxieties.
Obsidiodyssey is Langford’s second permanent installation with Meow Wolf, following her celebrated exhibit ‘CJ’s Temporal Lobby’ at the House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe.

She is known for her intricate world-building and retro futuristic illustrations. “I wanted to make an experience that takes guests through the ebb and flow of darkness and joy that comes with putting your whole self into works of art,” said Langford.
“For me, making art can be the most beautiful, euphoric thing in the world; but often, getting it out requires facing many of my demons. I hope this journey I’ve put before our guests resonates with creatives across the artistic spectrum.”
In Obsidiodyssey, guests will join Langford’s character CJ, an art director creating the perfect music video for an egotistical pop star called ‘Fantastrophe’.
Visitors will enjoy interactive elements like paint-by-number experiences and a clock that plays with the perception of time.
Radio Tave to open on Halloween
Langford has also collaborated with Meow Wolf on a new collection featuring the ‘Obsidiopolis‘ brand. This includes art prints, clothing and more.
“As the Houston exhibition prepares to open its doors, Obsidiodyssey stands out as a bold continuation of Langford’s mission to create spaces where Black women and femmes can see themselves in all their complexity, power, and beauty,” Meow Wolf said in a press release.
Radio Tave opens in Houston’s historic Fifth Ward on Halloween (31 October). The new attraction also includes a surreal dive bar in the afterlife called ‘Cowboix Hevvven‘.
