The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), a non-profit representing compelling places and experiences worldwide, has announced the TEA Masters of Their Craft honourees for 2024.
The TEA Masters of Their Craft programme celebrates the achievements of individuals, including creators, managers, designers, writers, producers, engineers, and craftspeople, who have made significant and long-lasting contributions to the themed entertainment industry through innovation, design, craftsmanship, leadership, and/or artistry.
The 2024 Masters are:
- Joe Blanck, creatures and puppets
- Bettina Buckley, theme park master planning
- Michel Linet-Frion, creative director, designer, and consultant
- Haruo Masuda, art director, exhibition planner, curator, and designer
- Ida Muldrow, costume design, fashion design, and millinery
- John Polk, water technologies and fountain experiences
- Mike West, producer, director, writer, and project developer
The 2024 TEA Masters will be formally honoured at SATE North America, which is taking place in Dollywood from 15 to 18 October. Registration for the event is now open.
Advancing the themed entertainment industry
The TEA Masters of Their Craft initiative recognises remarkable individuals who have used their expertise to advance their field and exemplify the highest standards.
Each Master has accumulated a body of work over at least 20 years, frequently working on a worldwide scale and numerous significant and/or signature projects, all while constantly demonstrating excellent execution.
TEA Masters hail from all over the world, are diverse and represent a wide range of fields. Often unknown save to their peers and collaborators, they contribute to the creation of visceral stories, rides, attractions, events, and locations that immerse, mystify, excite, and educate visitors from every corner of the globe. They are also ardent mentors to those who work with them, ready to share their knowledge with new entrants to the sector.
Each new cohort of TEA Masters is chosen by the current Masters who serve as a Selection Committee. The Selection Committee welcomes nominations from professionals around the world and carefully evaluates each nomination after ensuring the submission conditions have been fulfilled.
The voting process is strict and comprehensive, and the conversations are dynamic. The whole process takes three months, during which nominations are individually evaluated and a final slate is selected.
Earlier this month, TEA launched a new Wellness Council of members across the association’s four global divisions. The Wellness Council will encourage TEA’s standing committees and divisional boards to focus on wellness in their programmes and projects through meaningful content, inclusive logistics, and increased awareness.
