Reverse the Red, a global coalition committed to accelerating and amplifying successful species recovery strategies, will host the annual Reverse the Red Day on 7 February 2025. The event celebrates conservation success stories and encourages action to save species and ecosystems. Before next year’s event, the organisation has arranged two virtual sessions to announce the goals and themes.

Reverse the Red is inviting those interested in engaging with Reverse the Red Day 2025 to attend to learn more information about the event. The team will also share toolkits and assets, ideas for events, and answer any questions. The organisers are particularly encouraging organisations that hosted World Species Congress satellite events to host follow-ups or continuations of events hosted in May.

The two sessions will be the same and will also be recorded for those who cannot attend live. Please click here to register for session one on 9 October at 7 p.m. ET and here for session two on 10 October at 7 a.m. ET.

Earlier this year, Reverse the Red hosted the first-ever World Species Congress, a groundbreaking event that aimed to drive global collaboration in species recovery efforts. With presentations from over 200 speakers representing more than 60 countries, the Congress showcased success stories, innovative strategies, and actionable insights in species conservation.

“The goal of the Congress is to highlight the importance of species recovery work,” said  Michael Clifford, Reverse the Red’s strategy director, speaking to blooloop ahead of the event. “The Congress is elevating the specific efforts people are making to prevent species from becoming extinct. There are success stories from botanical gardens, zoos, governments, NGOs, and species specialist groups.”

World Species Congress

Over 10,000 species experts, conservationists, government representatives, academics, and
more joined the first World Species Congress. During the event, 3,890 Reverse the Red Species Pledges were made. These are organisational commitments to specific actions aligned with a larger strategy to see populations of threatened species recovered in the wild. In addition, attendees took more than 13,000 direct actions to accelerate conservation efforts.

After attending the World Species Congress, 69% of respondents were likely to refine their current strategy to achieve a more significant measurable impact. Plus, 91% of respondents are interested in increasing collaboration, strategic coordination, and accelerating species recovery by being part of a national network in their country.

Attendees reported increased confidence in achieving their work’s strategic goals, optimism about global efforts to recover species, and connection to the broader conservation community outside their organisation.
