Hero, the Rockefeller Center’s immersive exhibition space, is opening a ‘Sleepy Hollow’-themed experience for Halloween on 12 October.

Sleepy Hollow: Autumn’s Harvest‘, available through 10 November, is based on the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman from Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

The autumnal attraction is located in Hero, the 13,000-square-foot multi-sensory exhibition area found beneath Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Set against a harvest festival backdrop, Sleepy Hollow: Autumn’s Harvest is a multi-sensory experience featuring mind-bending audiovisual (AV) effects, cutting-edge digital art, interactive play and seasonal F&B.

Guests will experience the history of 19th-century Hudson Valley folklore across eight immersive rooms, as follows:

The Sleepy Hollow Harvest is a welcome space with freshly pressed apple cider and characters dressed in themed costumes.

In the Hollows, guests will use blacklight to uncover ancient tales scrawled on tree trunks while whispered narration from Washington Irving fills the space.

At the Cornfield, guests will explore winding turns in a lifelike golden cornfield, and in Ichabod’s Enchanted Grove, they will play in a toadstool-themed bounce house.

Guests will enjoy herbal concoctions and treats in the Witch’s Hearth as they sit beside a crackling fire and hear terrifying tales from Washington Irving.

At the Haunted Tunnel, they will brace themselves for the Headless Horseman’s midnight ride as storm clouds appear on the ceiling above.

The Pumpkin Patch is a room themed to an autumn festival where guests can pick up a pumpkin, which they can carve and decorate at Jack O’Lantern Atelier.

Additionally, Hero is providing weekly costume parties with face painting, seasonal treats and storytelling. Also, every Wednesday evening there will be a spooky cinema experience showing films like Tim Burton‘s Sleepy Hollow, Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice.

In more news, creative agency THG is celebrating the completion of a five-year project to transform the Top of the Rock experience at Rockefeller Center.
