7thSense, the multi-award-winning media solutions specialist, has revealed details of ‘Project Lunarcy’, its latest technological advancement.
Known for pushing the limits of immersive experiences with leading theme park attractions and speciality performance venues, the company has announced that it is taking a giant leap in innovation by projection mapping the moon.
Bryan Hinckley, 7thSense CEO, says: “We looked at building-sized projection mapping and LED displays and thought… it’s nice, but have you tried turning the Moon into an 800K pixel canvas? It was only a matter of time before someone asked the big question: what if the Moon had a professional pixel and media technology team that could handle it?”
Out-of-this-world technology
The project is driven by 7thSense technologies including:
- Astrocompression Lens Arrays
- Drahtrasignal Satellite Uplink Synchronisation
- Hyperspectral Photon Superblasters
- Lunar Surface Reflectivity Enhancement Coating (thanks to a collaboration with ‘extremely cooperative’ Lunar Dust, Inc.)
- Retrofitted Space-Grade GigaLumen Projectors.
“Honestly, building-sized displays were just too small for what we had in mind. The Moon offered a more realistic display surface for interplanetary storytelling,” says Hinckley.
Project Lunarcy employs an orbiting fleet of synchronised satellites mounted with projectors and 7thSense media servers. Each unit is driven by caffeinated neutrinos and aligned using the ancient art of astral feng shui.
Upcoming lunar content includes:
- A giant QR code, that can be scanned from Earth using a smartphone and a telescope.
- A remastered version of 2001: A Space Odyssey in full wraparound FullMoon-mode.
- Sponsored content by cheese brands (pending discussions with the Moon’s rightful dairy stakeholders).
Although tickets to the live Moon experience are fully booked, the company says that “fans can stream the event by simply looking up”.
