The International Museum Construction Congress (IMCC), an event that brings together museum and architecture professionals to explore sustainability, planning, project management, construction, renovation and expansion of museums, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025 with two scheduled congress events.
From 21 – 24 April, IMCC will be held in Tokyo, Japan, with host venues the Nezu Museum, the National Art Center, the Mori Art Museum, and Artizon. Later this year, a second congress will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 2 – 4 November, with host venues including Black Diamond, the Danish Architecture Center, and the National Museum.
10 years of IMCC
Since its inception in 2016, IMCC has been held around the world. Previous locations include:
- 2016 – Amsterdam/Rotterdam (Rijksmuseum, NEMO Science Museum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Kunsthal Museum)

- 2020 – Virtual Meeting (due to Covid-19 Pandemic)
- 2021 – London (The British Library, Museum of London, and Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood & South Kensington Museum)
- 2022 – Dubai/Abu Dhabi Special Edition (Sharjah Heritage House, The Museum of the Future, Louvre Abu Dhabi)
- 2022 – Oslo (University of Oslo, Munch Museum, The National Museum)
- 2023 – Antwerp (KMSKA, MAS, MOMU Fashion Museum, Antwerp City Hall)
- 2024 – Oman (National Museum, Oman Across Ages, Royal Opera House)
- 2024 – Edinburgh (National Museum of Scotland, National Galleries of Scotland: Portrait, McEwan Hall/University of Edinburgh)
IMCC Tokyo is sold out, with 100 attendees signed up from across the globe. The congress will be held at the Nezu Museum, National Art Center, Mori Art Museum and the Artizon Museum.
Meanwhile, 250 seats are available for IMCC Copenhagen in November, and early bird registration will open in May. The last three November congress events have sold out. Organisers have also received a record number of session proposals for the Copenhagen IMCC.
