SeaWorld San Diego has delayed the opening of its new jellyfish experience. The park has also announced a transformation of its ‘Journey to Atlantis’ coaster.
‘Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience’ will now open at SeaWorld San Diego in spring 2025, instead of this year.
It will be the first of its kind in a SeaWorld park. An immersive aquarium experience, Jewels of the Sea will house a variety of jelly species, such as moon jellies, Pacific sea nettles, upside-down jellyfish and comb jellies.
The new animal habitat will offer a detailed look at jellyfish through educational and interactive elements. Highlights in the exhibit include a 10-foot-tall archway of jellyfish, an 18-foot-tall jellyfish cylinder, and a touchable globe of cascading water and jellies.
The exhibit’s finale is an immersive virtual gallery where the walls and ceiling are covered in LED digital video panels displaying oceanic scenes.

“Visiting the new jellyfish experience is an amazing opportunity like no other – a chance for our guests to see up close the spectacular details of these underwater marvels and witness how they live their lives in astonishing clarity.”
New ‘Jewels of the Sea’ attraction
Eric Otjen, VP of zoological at SeaWorld San Diego, added: “Guests will walk through striking habitats and view vivid displays to learn more about these wonderful creatures. This new exhibit aligns with our mission of educating and inspiring guests to learn more about our oceans and the world around us.”
As for Journey to Atlantis, SeaWorld San Diego’s first coaster will be reinvented next year. The park will pay tribute to the original version and add new elements to offer a more exciting ride experience.
These include a refreshed storyline, new water and show elements, and special visual effects.
