Sweden’s Gröna Lund to open super swing ride next year

Sweden’s Gröna Lund theme park has announced it will open a super swing ride called ‘Pumpen’ in April of next year.

Pumpen, which translates to “water pump”, will be the second attraction of its kind in the world, and the first in Northern Europe. It is manufactured by RES Rides.

As above, the swing ride is themed to an industrial water pump, as well as a building at Gröna Lund that hosted a variety show in the 1930s.

“We want to offer amazing experiences for all our visitors, both young and old. That’s why we have searched high and low for a unique ride that can be enjoyed by all ages. We have truly found that in this unique super swing, which we have chosen to name Pumpen,” said Jan Eriksson, Gröna Lund’s CEO.

“Whether you are four or 84 years old, you will feel the same thrill in your stomach when you experience both weightlessness and falls combined with speed.”

Jakob Fagerström, creative director at Gröna Lund, added: “With over 140 years of history, Gröna Lund has tonnes of inspiration for new experiences.

“The style and architecture of Pumpen are inspired by a building that once stood nearby and hosted a vintage variety show in the 1930s. It also incorporates Art Deco design elements and will be a perfect fit in our children’s area.”

On the new ride, which includes two gondolas with 10 seats each, guests will enjoy feelings of weightlessness as they swing above the park.

Earlier this year, Gröna Lund submitted the first planning applications for a new area, which is inspired by the 1897 Stockholm world’s fair.

Located on the island of Djurgården in central Stockholm, Gröna Lund is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. It’s home to 30 attractions, including Monster – King of Roller Coasters, an inverted steel coaster by B&M.

The park, operated by Parks and Resorts Scandinavia, welcomes more than 1 million guests every year.
