Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC), a world-leading roller coaster manufacturer, will be exhibiting at IAAPA Expo 2024 in Orlando, Florida, next week, where attendees can learn more about the company’s growth and its latest projects.
Founded in 2001, RMC, based in Idaho, USA, has become one of the most well-known roller coaster manufacturers. The company’s first project, The New Texas Giant, put RMC on the map and opened the door for a successful partnership with Six Flags; it has now built 11 rollercoasters for Six Flags parks.
Since then, it has worked on many award-winning and popular coasters, including Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point in Ohio and Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida, both recognised with Golden Ticket Awards for Best New Ride on their debuts. Other standout rides include Zadra at Energylandia in Poland, which won a European Star Award for Best New Steel Coaster. In total, RMC has 11 Golden Ticket Awards, three IAAPA Brass Ring Awards and two European Star Awards.
Two of the company’s projects hold Guinness World Records – Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City for the Steepest Wooden Coaster and Goliath at Six Flags Great America for the Tallest & Fastest Wooden Coaster.
It also went on to develop the groundbreaking I-Box Track. Engineered for superior performance and durability, this provides more elements per foot, allowing for tighter turns, smoother transitions, and more thrilling manoeuvres.
Now, RMC is a vertically integrated company with 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space, able to provide full-service in-house, including engineering, machine shop, weld shop, assembly, installation, and parts.
RMC continues to grow
In 2023, RMC joined forces with Larson International, a Texas-based company with nearly a century of experience in amusement rides. This acquisition expanded RMC’s portfolio to include many attractions, from family-friendly and kiddie rides to world-class coasters. It also enables it to maintain quality and efficiency through its vertically integrated process.
Completing over 90% of each project in-house, RMC oversees design, production, and installation to deliver high-quality attractions at competitive prices. This streamlined approach allows the company to consistently exceed expectations, whether creating new rides or transforming existing ones.
Darren Torr, president, says: “Bringing Larson into the RMC family has expanded our lineup of world-class rides and strengthened our engineering and manufacturing capabilities. This acquisition enables us to optimize cost, schedule, and quality on every project while keeping innovation at the heart of our work.
“Together, we’re committed to delivering unforgettable experiences that consistently set new standards and exceed expectations.”
As the company continue to grow, it remains committed to the highest standards in every area, from best-in-class communication practices to precision-focused engineering. It is not just building roller coasters; RMC is constantly delivering one-of-a-kind experiences that redefine thrill and family entertainment worldwide.
While RMC’s thrill rides continue to push boundaries, the firm is also expanding into new realms with family-oriented coasters, including RMC’s first-ever powered coaster, Fire In The Hole, the 2024 Golden Ticket Award winner for Best New Family Attraction. These family coasters feature state-of-the-art track and advanced train technology, delivering an exceptionally smooth and accessible experience for riders of all ages. This shift enables them to reach a broader audience, capturing the excitement of thrill-seekers and the wonder of young families alike.
In addition, RMC’s international expansion is also transforming the global amusement landscape, with Europe and Korea soon debuting their first Raptor coasters. These openings mark just the beginning of RMC’s worldwide presence, bringing our unique experiences to parks and audiences across the globe
Recently, RMC has been highlighting the versatility of its Wild Moose Family Coaster. Inspired by the beloved Wild Mouse coasters, this platform redefines family coasters through RMC’s patented I-Box track technology. Known for its innovative coaster engineering, RMC has tailored this platform to deliver family-friendly thrills with smooth, controlled twists and turns.
Meet the team at IAAPA Expo 2024 from 19 – 22 November at booths #4803 and 4221.
