IAAPA Expo 2024 saw record attendance & industry innovations

IAAPA, the global association for the attractions industry, is celebrating last week’s IAAPA Expo in Orlando. The event drew 41,429 attendees and 37,066 verified attendees from around the globe.

This year’s event set a new attendance record, reinforcing its position as the leading annual gathering for the global attractions sector. Showcasing the industry’s growth and innovation, IAAPA Expo 2024 included over 1,100 exhibitors and around 27,000 buyers representing more than 20,000 purchasing companies. Meanwhile, with more than 140 learning opportunities, the education conference offered participants unique insights, best practices, and thought-provoking knowledge.

Along with the insights presented at the Expo’s EDUSessions, participants got an early glimpse of the 2025 North America Economic Outlook Report. This report predicts significant growth in the attractions industry nationwide. For the first time, this year’s report fully incorporates natural, adventure, and eco-attractions, showcasing a remarkable six-fold rise in industry reach, as total attendance across destinations surpassed one billion visitors and supported over 1.1 million jobs in the region.

Special events and more

This year, the new Haunting Grounds and Street Market pavilions debuted, and special events like the LEGENDS: A Hall of Fame Celebratory Affair and the first Women in the Industry Networking Lunch highlighted the themes of perseverance and advancement within the industry.

In addition, leading manufacturers and suppliers to theme park owners and operators held press conferences throughout the event to announce new attractions, rides, company expansions, innovative products, and more.

The expo maintained a significant presence of the IAAPA Foundation. Nearly $80,000 was raised throughout the week from contributions to the live auction at the LEGENDS: A Hall of Fame Celebratory Affair event, along with a silent auction held for the entire week. IAAPA will match the final total, increasing the amount to $160,000.

“This year’s IAAPA Expo was truly a celebration of community and collaboration within our industry,” says Jakob Wahl, president and CEO of IAAPA. “Bringing together professionals from every corner of the globe, we saw firsthand the power of shared passion, knowledge, and creativity. IAAPA Expo is more than just an event; it’s a place where ideas come to life and where lifelong connections are made.

“Watching the energy and excitement of attendees reminded us why we do what we do—to inspire, to innovate, and to create memorable experiences that bring joy to people everywhere.”

During the opening ceremony, Massimiliano “Massi” Freddi, the founder and CEO of Wonderwood, officially assumed the role of IAAPA Chairman of the Board. With over 20 years of experience in attractions management and development, Massi’s passion for education will enhance IAAPA’s ability to offer support and growth opportunities to our global members.

IAAPA Expo 2025 will take place from 17 – 21 November.  So far, 688 companies have contracted 368,400 square feet of exhibit space.
