Glittering awards ceremony
The awards ceremony began with a drinks reception hosted by Trimline. Representatives from AmaWaterways, Ambassador Cruise Line, Carnival Maritime, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Disney Cruise Line, Explora Journeys, Holland America Line & Seabourn, Hurtigruten, HX, Marella Cruises, Meyer Turku, Meyer Werft, MSC Cruise, Norwegian Cruise Line, and other companies were among the guests who gathered to congratulate the winners.
Elite Exhibitions CEO Toby Walters opened the event by thanking the awards sponsors, including global headline sponsor Kalmar Lighting. The marble awards were made by Laticrete.
SMC Design was among the night’s biggest winners. It received its first prize, Best Stateroom, in partnership with Meyer Werft, for Balcony Cabin on the NYK Cruises’ Asuka III. This ship is intended to appeal to both seasoned and first-time cruisers, therefore NYK Cruises sought an interior that felt fresh and inviting, with a global appeal.
Its second prize, Best Dining Space, was for its collaboration with Cruise Saudi, an innovative new cruise line, on the fully renovated and reimagined Aroya Cruises. Irth, the winning dining venue, serves as the flagship Saudi restaurant. It provides an immersive dining experience with speciality recipes made from the freshest local ingredients.
Royal Caribbean was among the most nominated brands. Its latest vessel, the Icon of the Seas, is the largest cruise ship in history and was a nominee in several categories. Royal Caribbean won the Best Onboard Experience award in collaboration with Wilson Butler Architects and Breakfast, NY for The Pearl.
In this experience, a smooth sphere and shimmering surface give way to huge portals that reveal a lively interior where thousands of kinetic tiles ebb and flow, echoing the energy of both the water outside and the Royal Promenade below.
Windstar Cruises, DESIGN STUDIO BERG+, and Civil Marine Contract won Best Refurbished Space for the Wind Star Lounge on Wind Star. Transformation is crucial to the space. During the day, it now offers a peaceful retreat where guests can spend time with a book and a coffee from the adjacent Yacht Club Café. As night approaches, the lounge turns into a bustling pre-dinner cocktail bar, before becoming a dynamic location for dancing with the entertainment team or watching the renowned crew show.
Legend of Design
The awards concluded with the presentation of a previously unannounced honour, The Legend of Design award. This was presented to George Scammell, director interior asset management at Princess Cruises, who is recognised for making a significant impact on the cruise ship interiors sector during his decades as a designer. He has not only shaped trends, but also served as an invaluable mentor and leader to numerous designers who now run their own teams.
Last month, Elite Exhibitions announced that CSI will be holding the Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe event at Germany’s Hamburg Messe Und Congress (HMC) in 2025, bolstering the event’s position as the leading platform in the region connecting the cruise ship interiors supply chain.
