Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new notice of commencement for work on the new Tropical Americas land at Animal Kingdom in Florida.
As previously announced, Dinoland USA at Animal Kingdom is being transformed into a new land called Tropical Americas, themed to a village in the heart of the rainforest.
This will be home to a new Indiana Jones attraction, which takes place inside a mysterious Maya temple. Additionally, the 11-acre land will include the first ride-through Encanto attraction at a Disney park.

“With Tropical Americas, we’re bringing huge projects to life for generations of fans. This is the type of signature storytelling that our Disney Imagineers have been creating for 70 years,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s theme parks and experiences division.
Filed on 13 December, the new document “gives notice that improvement will be made to certain real property”, which is listed as 610 Dinoland Drive and is being prepared for “area development”.
The expiration date for Disney’s new permit is 30 December 2025. Disney has already filed notice of commencements this year to install trailers for the Animal Kingdom project.
In October, the company filed a permit with the Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) for the project’s demolition plans.
New Encanto and Indiana Jones attractions
Dinoland USA is closing in phases, beginning with the ‘Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama’ mini-land, which will permanently shut on 13 January 2025. Tropical Americas is due to open in 2027.
As for Walt Disney World’s other parks, Magic Kingdom is getting a new villains land, and a new Monsters, Inc. land is being developed for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney is set to spend $30 billion on its theme parks over the next decade as part of a total $60bn investment in its parks, experiences and products division.
