Nintendo has announced it is expanding an aquarium experience based on Animal Crossing: New Horizons across the US this year.

After opening at the Seattle Aquarium last year, the experience will begin its tour of US aquariums this month, starting at Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

Each aquarium on the tour will host themed activities, and guests will get to “explore the wonders of aquatic life with an Animal CrossingNew Horizons twist”, Nintendo said in a press release.

Exhibits will include an Animal Crossing photo opportunity, themed signage with Blathers the owl presenting creature descriptions with information directly from the video game.

Additionally, there will be standees of familiar characters from the game, and My Nintendo kiosks where guests can check in and receive points.

On select days and stops, guests will meet Isabelle, Tom Nook, and K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Here’s where the experience is heading:

  • Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (14 June to 11 August)
  • Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, Louisiana (21 June to 14 September)
  • Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia (1 August to 26 September)
  • Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Oregon (26 August to 20 October)
  • New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts (20 September to 14 December)
  • Sea Life Aquarium Arizona in Tempe, Arizona (21 September to 17 November)
  • Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee (21 December to 28 February)

Nintendo’s LBE expansion

Nintendo previously shared plans to take its intellectual property (IP) to “a variety of settings” beyond video games.

“We want to expand our video game characters to a variety of settings – not just in games, all while keeping their value,” said Nintendo game developer Shigeru Miyamoto. “In other words, we’ll be collaborating with various other companies.”

Of course, this plan includes Super Nintendo World, as well as Nintendo’s new museum in Kyoto, Japan. This is due to open in autumn of this year.
