Kraftwerk Living Technologies (KLT), a leading-edge AV systems integrator, is celebrating its recent achievement at the Inavation Awards 2025. The Chimelong Bermuda Storm Theater received honours in the Arts & Experience category, celebrated for advancing technical limits, setting world records, crafting memorable experiences, and revolutionising storytelling.
KLT’s managing partner and CTO, Christian Hofer, along with Kevin Murphy, senior VP of sales and business development, received the Inavation Award for the entire team during the Gala Ceremony on 4 February, organised by Inavate Magazine and ISE 2025 in Barcelona.
The Bermuda Storm Theater in the Chimelong Spaceship Indoor Park in Zhuhai, China, represents a remarkable innovation in the entertainment sector. As visitors journey through the infamous Bermuda Triangle, they face dramatic weather events and dangerous situations.
State-of-the-art audiovisual technologies enhance this experience, including premium projection systems, a large custom dynamic motion simulator, an advanced Low-Frequency Effects (LFE) sound system, and ingeniously integrated special effects such as water splashes, animatronics, and holographic displays.
Notably, the powerful ultra-low frequencies designed to simulate the feeling of being aboard a ship during a storm mark a breakthrough at this scale, establishing a new standard for immersive experiences.
The project has earned a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement. It holds two Guinness World Records: the World’s Largest Curved Projection Screen, an immense 1,682 square metre concave screen that creates a breathtaking visual experience, and the World’s Highest Seated Capacity Motion Simulator, a custom-built motion simulator platform by Brogent, accommodating up to 304 people on a single platform.
Raising the bar
The journey started in 2019 with a quarter-scale model of the main theatre and a full-scale pre-show model near KLT’s headquarters in Wels, Austria. After encountering delays due to COVID-19, the final installation was completed in October 2023.
A project of this magnitude presents substantial challenges, requiring specialised knowledge and smooth teamwork. By partnering with esteemed international teams such as Far Out! Creative, Technifex, Yessian Music, Visual Terrain, Mack Animation, and Brogent, KLT ensured the seamless implementation of advanced systems, which is crucial for a project requiring a high degree of technical personalisation.
“The bar for immersive experiences has been raised even higher, showing what is possible when brilliant technology and creative vision come together,” says Hofer. “Winning this award is not just a recognition of our AV expertise but a testament to the dedication, innovation, and collaboration of all teams involved. This project stands out in the entertainment market, setting a new standard in media-based attractions.”
Last year, Kraftwerk Living Technologies designed and supplied an advanced audio-visual (AV) setup for the newly opened Flyover in Chicago by Pursuit at Navy Pier.
