EpicSurf, a stationary surf experience from the water park experts at Aquatic Development Group (ADG), has announced that its deep-water standing surf wave is joining the diverse array of attractions available at Heroes Paradise, a top-tier family entertainment destination in Brandon, Florida.
The surf experience, which is expected to open in 2025, will offer a customisable wave suitable for surfers of all ages and abilities.
Deep knowledge
Heroes Paradise was founded in 2020 by Julie and Tim Pennenga, and extends across eight acres. The venue features four dynamic gameplay fields and a clubhouse with facilities over two floors, with panoramic views and a covered outdoor deck for spectators.
Its attractions combine adventure and family fun, and include the biggest laser tag course in the Southeast, two remote control car courses, archery tag, an interactive rock-climbing wall, and a flight simulator.
The Pennengas have been interested in including an aquatic or surf experience from the outset. After extensive research, conversations, and design iterations, EpicSurf was selected as the technology partner for the planned surf expansion.
“The team behind EpicSurf has been incredible to work with from day one,” says Julie Pennenga. “Their responsiveness and attention to detail have made a huge difference in keeping our project on track, and it’s clear that their deep knowledge of construction comes from years of hands-on experience.
“That kind of expertise, paired with their credibility in the industry, gave us complete confidence that we were making the right choice. They’ve been true partners every step of the way, and their commitment to bringing our vision to life has been amazing.”
Accessible surf technology
EpicSurf has been developed for accessibility, with a customisable surf experience that caters to riders of all abilities. With the push of a button, the rapid wave technology can shift from three to five feet and adapt to the rider’s needs, whether they are professional surfers refining advanced tricks, or those trying surfing for the first time.
Heroes Paradise will be equipped with an ES46 model with 46 feet of surfable wave width, and a footprint of 66 feet by 90 feet.
Riders will be able to enjoy an enhanced surf experience with authentic finned surfboards, and retractable training bars will offer a safe and supportive learning environment.
ADG has been developing world-class aquatic experiences for more than five decades, and is a recognised specialist in wave generation technology.
Its exclusive WaveTek wave technology is known for its performance and adaptability, and has been installed over 550 times worldwide. This demonstrates the company’s expertise and ability to design and deliver wave-based attractions, including authentic surf experiences, with exceptional precision and quality.
Bruce Quay, COO, EpicSurf, says: “We’re thrilled to deliver our deep-water stationary wave to Heroes Paradise, bringing surfing to Brandon, Florida, and giving so many people the chance to catch a wave. We believe this attraction will complement the venue’s other offerings and provide a fresh, new experience that will thrill visitors of all ages.”
The new attraction will be a key feature at Heroes Paradise. Wave sessions will take place hourly, with sessions for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders. Spectators are invited to a deck which surrounds the wave, creating an immersive experience for all visitors.
This development, which is expected to open by the end of the year, will bring inland deep-water surfing to Brandon and offer an elevated experience for guests at Heroes Paradise.
Earlier this year, EpicSurf was announced as the winner of the inclusion category at the blooloop Innovation Awards 2024, for its partnership with Aqua Creek to develop the world’s first standing wave access lift. This accolade highlights the growing global commitment to inclusivity in the surf industry.
