Zamperla, a leading ride manufacturer, together with Dinosaur Dream Factory, has announced the launch of the latest Lightning coaster at Dinosaur DreamWorks in China.
The ride marks Zamperla’s third Lightning coaster and the first with a vertical chain lift hill.
Mr. Ruan of Dinosaur Dream Factory, says: “As one of the 10 most anticipated roller coasters in the world in 2024, Lightning of Zamperla brings visitors a new thrilling experience that will be a highlight in Hubei province and even the whole world.”
Innovative design
Guests begin their ride by climbing the 39-metre (127-foot) vertical lift hill. The noise from the park fades as they approach the apex, and within seconds, the riders shift from looking at the sky to speeding towards the ground. After flying down the near-vertical drop, they enter the iconic vertical loop and experience three further inversions before reaching the station.
Antonio Zamperla, CEO of Zamperla Group, says: “The thrills of this coaster cannot be beat. What is extremely fun for our team is that this layout is similar to others we have manufactured with our previous Thunderbolt system. We promised our clients that we would provide coasters that were just as thrilling as our old experiences but have significantly improved track quality and more comfortable vehicles. We believe we have exceeded everyone’s expectations.”
The Lightning train, like its launch coaster equivalents, offers numerous time and cost-saving advantages. The ride uses three trains each with a capacity of eight passengers, and provides a throughput of 590 people per hour.
Davide Donadello, sales and operation manager for the China and Korea region, explains: “Our clients chose us in part because the Lightning train offers a long-term return on investment (ROI). The combination of a coaster that offers marketable thrills and reduced maintenance cost is extremely popular.”
As Zamperla’s biggest roller coaster in China, the ride represents over a dozen roller coasters operating in the country and is the third to feature a vertical lift. Zamperla is one of the only ride manufacturers with a technical support office in China, resulting in more than 20 years of success in the largest market in Asia.
The Lightning coaster is the first to use Zamperla’s patent-pending BBZ track concept.
Adam Sandy, roller coaster sales and marketing director at Zamperla, says: “This track design is not only beautiful, but also some of the best we have fabricated in our company’s history. This was fully manufactured at Zamperla’s roller coaster hall in Europe. The new design requires less materials, which helps keep costs down, while also allowing us to manufacture to extremely tight tolerances.”
Earlier this month, Zamperla celebrated the opening of ThunderVolt at Playland at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The new ride is the fastest launch coaster in Canada.
