Digital Projection, a specialist in laser projectors, has developed a brand-new software tech stack that enables users to design and implement a complete installation within the firm’s bespoke software platforms.
The firm’s next-generation electronics platform, Nexus, will enable clients to benefit from automatic projector calibration, including powerful align, warp, and mix capabilities, without relying on third-party programmes.
Only Digital Projection, a Delta brand, provides pixel blending and warping which is carried out directly in the projector hardware. This provides the most accurate warping on the market, flawlessly integrated into the projectors and offering export functionality.
Advanced projection tools
The tech stack is divided into two sections: pre-installation, which addresses users’ design requirements, and installation tools which allow them to achieve their vision.
Multi Projection Simulator Pro has now been released onto the market and was formerly used internally by the Digital Projection team. This allows customers to develop complicated applications with several projectors, creating and installing their settings entirely within the Digital Projection tech stack. This is one of the most sophisticated projection design tools available today, with advanced capabilities such as automatic layout assist, situation simulation, and 3D object imports.
The new version of Digital Projection’s Projector Controller II software includes the capacity to automatically align, blend, and warp numerous projectors using a camera. The Projector Controller II programme works directly with Nexus, Digital Projection’s new electronics platform, removing the need for third-party auto-calibration software.
With Projector Controller II, multiple projectors can be managed through a single, centralised PC-based application. The software can significantly cut down on the amount of time needed for setup and configuration, making it perfect for use in large installations or buildings with several projector locations.
Projector-based auto-calibration
Projector Controller II offers two variants of its auto-calibration tools. Smart Align is a free add-on designed for simple flat-screen calibration and allows users to swiftly align and colour-match their projectors using just their mobile phone. Advanced Align is a camera-based solution for complicated, multichannel surfaces. This is a paid solution with a 30-day free trial and fully utilises the Nexus chip’s capabilities.
Advanced Align is a sophisticated calibration solution that includes 2D and 3D content mapping, warp and blend, and full integration with media servers and presentation switchers through the projector hardware.
The solution executes the warp/blend in the projector hardware, resulting in the most accurate pixel-based blend. This saves server overhead and removes the need for costly third-party image generators. In addition, when the projector hardware undertakes the autocalibration and warp/blend the output is uncompressed, in contrast to the lower quality, compressed output delivered by a computer’s graphics card.
Comparable products only refer to individual projector warp, yet Advanced Align captures the entire screen and offers the most accurate edge blending and content distribution over many projectors. This is all provided within the projectors, reducing latency and assuring optimal image quality.
Wide availability
Nexus is designed to bring the most advanced image processing to all Digital Projection products, from the flagship 3-Chip DLP TITAN Laser 47000 projector to the affordable 1-Chip E-Vision 8000i. It provides users with enhanced, multi-functional image processing technology, and combines de-interlacing, scaling, warping, and edge blending in a single chip. As a result, all signal processing takes place together, reducing delays which lead to latency.
In addition, Nexus features onboard image quality control with full-gamma colour management, 10-bit colour processing (30 bits per pixel), and support for HDR (SMPTE ST2084(PQ) and HLG) and Art-Net. It also supports dual input signals up to 4K-UHD, which are independently processed and so can accept the most advanced signals in a chain.
The Nexus platform is presently available on the TITAN Laser 47000 WUXGA and 41000 4K-UHD, M-Vision 27000 WU and 24000 WU, and E-Vision 16000i, 10000i WU, and 8000i WU projectors, with more to follow in the months ahead.
Digital Projection recently provided its cutting-edge Satellite Modular Laser System (MLS) to the acclaimed French theme park Puy du Fou for its latest theatrical production, Le Mime et L’Étoile. This uses advanced AV technology to transport viewers back to the Belle Époque.
