Kings Dominion in central Virginia is to open Rapterra, the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster, in 2025 as part of its 50th anniversary season.

The 145-foot-tall, 3,086-foot-long coaster is inspired by a fictional bird of prey called the Jungle Hawk. Manufactured by Bolliger and Mabillard (B&M), Rapterra’s design puts riders on either side of the track, offering an immersive experience that simulates flying.

The journey begins with a powerful launch, accelerating riders to 65 miles per hour in four seconds. Guests will also enjoy a dive loop, a series of aerial manoeuvres, and three inversions.

“We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion.

“This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration and reaffirming why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement.”

Construction of Rapterra is already underway, with completion scheduled for this autumn.

Rapterra to launch in 2025

Kings Dominion is a 400-acre amusement park located in Doswell, Virginia. It is now owned and operated by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation after Cedar Fair’s merger with Six Flags was completed last month.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation oversees 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resort properties across 17 US states, Canada and Mexico.

The combined company is valued at around $8 billion including debt. Its parks will keep their current branding and names, with no changes planned at this time.
