SEGD (the Society for Experiential Graphic Design), a multidisciplinary global community of professionals, invites leading experiential designers to “THINK BIG!” at the upcoming 2024 SEGD Conference Experience Dallas.
This conference is taking place from 26 to 28 September at the acclaimed Fairmont Dallas, and will bring together visionary designers, industry leaders, and creative thinkers from all around the world to discuss the future of experiential design.
Registration is now open.
The three-day conference includes an engaging programme of keynotes, sessions, workshops, and tours, focusing on testing the limits of what design can accomplish. Delegates will explore how innovative, sustainable, and inclusive design thinking can drive change, promote empathy, and produce spaces that connect with people on a profound, personal level.
Day one – 26 September
Sandra Bond Chapman, PhD, founder and chief director of the Center for BrainHealth, will deliver the conference’s opening keynote and set the scene for the day’s theme, Kicking Off with Bold Vision. Dr Chapman’s presentation, Designing Your Brain to Think Exponentially, will discuss how cutting-edge design may impact cognitive function and inspire exponential thinking in the design process.
The day’s programme includes Epic Visions: Designing Bold in Dallas, a panel session with leading industry figures, who will explore the challenges and successes of designing in Dallas. This presentation will highlight the best of Dallas’ design scene, including the AT&T Discovery District and memorial design that evokes memories of place.
Participants can then enjoy inspiring tours of some of Dallas’ most iconic and innovative projects. These include Dallas Art Museum, Perot Museum, and Baylor Scott & White Health Administration Headquarters.
Day two – 27 September
The theme for day two is Designing for Harmony and Innovation, and the day will begin with a keynote from Peter Slavenburg of Northern Light, titled Designing for Harmony: Blue Zones in Experience Design. Slavenburg will discuss how design can create environments which support longevity, wellbeing, and community.
Upali Nanda, EVP, global sector director of innovation at HKS, Inc., will present If Places Could Speak, What Would They Say? Nanda’s session will explore the emotional and narrative potential of spaces, prompting participants to consider the narratives that their designs convey.
NEXPO TALKS are scheduled throughout the day. Attendees can also explore innovative goods and services at NEXPO, and join professional practice groups for networking and collaboration.
The annual SEGD Global Design Awards, which honour the most creative and significant initiatives in the industry, cap off the evening. The ceremony, presented by DCL, will celebrate the innovative ideas that are shaping the built environment’s future.
Day three – 28 September
Day three, Celebrating Achievement and Visionary Leadership, opens with the induction of the new SEGD Fellows and the 2024 SEGD Achievement Awards, presented by Designtex. These esteemed awards honour individuals and initiatives that have significantly advanced the experiential graphic design sector.
The 2024 honorees include Stefan Sagmeister, FSEGD, a trailblazing designer renowned for his unconventional and provocative work; Shirin Frangoul-Brückner, FSEGD, founder of ATELIER BRÜCKNER, whose designs for museums and exhibitions have revolutionized the field, and Marquise Stillwell, FSEGD, founder of Openbox, who is recognised for promoting social change through design.
The final day will feature specialised tracks which aim to encourage delegates to think about how design might strengthen connections, increase empathy, and address historical and social narratives. They include Wayfinding Evolution: From Intimate Journeys to Urban Epics, Unfolding Stories: Interpreting Texas’s Contested Histories Through Design, and Inclusive Design: Enhancing Empathy through Accessibility.
The final keynotes, Immersion with Purpose: The People’s House, Washington, DC and Game Changers: Audacious Designs Transforming Sports and Education, will challenge delegates to test their boundaries and think big in all of their projects. The SEGD Dallas Conference Experience will culminate with a closing party at The Exchange Hall at AT&T Discovery.
SEGD thanks its presenting sponsors, Color-Ad Signs and Exhibits and Nanolumens.
