Combined ticket offer

To accompany this extension, a range of new merchandise has been released together with a new combination ticket which admits visitors to both exhibitions.

In Downton Abbey: The Exhibition, Imagine Exhibitions and Universal Live Entertainment have added to the range of branded merchandise available in the gift shop. The exclusive new collection includes tea towels, mugs, tea sets and luxurious pillows and blankets inspired by Downton Abbey’s beauty and sophistication.

In addition, the new combination ticket enables visitors to visit both exhibitions, which are accessed from the same lobby. With this, visitors can explore two post-Edwardian era experiences, linked by the tragic story of the Titanic’s maiden voyage which is notably portrayed in the opening episode of Downton Abbey.

Artefacts, costumes & sets

Downton Abbey: The Exhibition welcomes visitors into the world of the multi-award-winning international television series and two previously released movies produced by Carnival Films, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Chicago is the sixth venue in the exhibition’s US tour.

Tom Zaller, president and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, says: “We are overjoyed at the opportunity to extend the stay of Downton Abbey: The Exhibition in Chicago and could not be more thrilled with the overwhelming response from guests thus far. This extension and new features are a testament to the timeless appeal of Downton Abbey and the desire for immersive, elegant experiences.”

The exhibition, which was described by The New York Times as “a cleverly immersive experience mounted with the same exacting care as the show itself”, includes exclusive exhibits such as production props, footage from the series, and more than 60 original costumes which allows fans to connect with their favourite characters.

The experience offers an insight into the lives of the Crawleys, and those who worked for them, in a tour through Downton Abbey which includes some of the most well-known and popular sets from the series. The popular TV series is set in the post-Edwardian period, and this exhibition takes an in-depth look at the incredible events of the era. Visitors will learn about British society, culture, and fashion from World War I to the Roaring Twenties.

In Titanic: The Exhibition, visitors will explore fully immersive re-creations of the ship’s interior and see hundreds of artefacts which include props and recreations of the costumes from James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster movie Titanic.

Each guest is issued a boarding card corresponding to a particular passenger on the ship, which enables them to follow the passenger’s story. The passenger’s fate is revealed in the final gallery, which features personal belongings, a commemoration wall, and individual recollections.

This interactive exhibition follows the timeline of the design, creation, launch, maiden voyage and tragedy of the biggest and most luxurious ship in the world at the time. Detailed recreations of the ship’s interiors include a two-storey Grand Staircase, first-class hallway and millionaires suite, third-class hallway and cabin, boiler room, and exterior promenade deck with a starry night sky.

The Discovery Gallery, which focuses on the Titanic’s wreckage site, has a raised glass floor that simulates walking on the ocean floor. Visitors can see broken china in the sand, which recreates some of the experience of the discovery teams diving at the Titanic site.

In addition, the exhibition features a film about forensic research on the Titanic’s collision, breakup, and sinking, as well as award-winning underwater photography depicting the ship’s current state on the ocean floor.

Imagine Exhibitions recently announced a collaboration with acclaimed artist Sean Kenney and Science North, a leading science centre in Ontario, Canada. The partnership will create two new immersive exhibitions, Brick Masters Studio and Brick Planet, which are both built from Lego bricks.
