Dutch fairytale theme park Efteling has launched its updated Aquanura water show, which has been transformed as part of the park’s sustainability goals.
The Aquanura show, named Efteling Symphonica, has undergone a complete transformation in recent months as Efteling works to reduce its carbon footprint.
Efteling has removed the fire effects, which used propane, and added four “beacons of light” around the pond to bring the show to life through thematic lighting.
Also, Efteling Symphonica now features a new piece of music, providing a totally refreshed experience for visitors.

“We are extremely happy with this final result. It is very special to experience a premiere together with our visitors, because those reactions are most important to us,” said Koen Sanders, director of product, market and image at Efteling.
“We want to keep innovating for both day guests and overnight guests. In addition, we are taking another step in the right direction of the Efteling’s climate objective by removing the fire effects from the show.
“We want to be climate neutral in 2030 and the use of such a show effect no longer fits in with that. With the addition of the beacons of light, a new piece of music and new show effects, we have realised a totally new experience.”
Green projects at Efteling
Other green initiatives at Efteling include a sustainable energy system to heat and cool buildings in the Anderrijk area, which houses Aquanura, using thermal energy storage. This has reduced Efteling’s gas consumption by 20 percent since using the system.
Additionally, Efteling is electrifying its steam trains. They will be propelled by electricity, with show effects added to replicate the steam.
In more news from Efteling, the park is due to temporarily close the Efteling Hotel for renovations, reopening it as the Efteling Wonder Hotel next year.
